Description

Air Fried Apple Wedges are a healthy and flavorful snack made by coating crisp apple slices with a cinnamon-spiced brown sugar mixture and cooking them in an air fryer until tender and slightly caramelized. This quick and easy recipe offers a guilt-free treat perfect for a snack or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Fruits

  • 4 medium-sized apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

Seasonings and Sweeteners

  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg (optional)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

Fats and Oils

  • 1 tablespoon of melted butter (or coconut oil for a dairy-free option)
  • Cooking spray or additional oil for greasing the air fryer basket

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry apples: Thoroughly wash the apples under running water to remove any wax or pesticides, then dry them completely using a kitchen towel.
  2. Core and slice apples: Core the apples using an apple corer or a knife, or cut into quarters and remove seeds manually. Then slice each apple into about 8 wedges, each approximately 1/2 inch thick.
  3. Prepare spice mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and a pinch of salt.
  4. Coat apple wedges: Drizzle lemon juice over the apple wedges to add flavor and prevent browning. Pour the melted butter over the wedges to help the sugar and spices adhere. Sprinkle the sugar-spice mix over the apples and gently toss to evenly coat all pieces.
  5. Preheat air fryer: Preheat the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) for about 3-5 minutes.
  6. Prepare air fryer basket: Lightly spray the basket with cooking spray or brush with oil to prevent sticking.
  7. Arrange apple wedges and air fry: Place the apple wedges in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Cook for 10 minutes, shaking the basket gently halfway through at 5 minutes to ensure even cooking.
  8. Check and finish cooking: After 10 minutes, check the texture of the wedges. If you prefer them crispier, air fry for an additional 2-3 minutes while watching carefully to avoid burning.
  9. Serve: Carefully remove the apple wedges with tongs or a spatula and transfer to a serving platter. Optionally sprinkle extra cinnamon or brown sugar on top, and serve warm alone or with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or caramel sauce.

Notes

  • Use tart apples like Granny Smith or sweet ones like Honeycrisp for the best flavor balance.
  • Adjust cinnamon and sugar amounts according to your preference.
  • Ensure apple wedges are not overcrowded in the air fryer basket for even cooking.
  • For a dairy-free option, substitute melted butter with melted coconut oil.
  • Serve immediately for best texture; the wedges may soften upon standing.
