Description

This Baked Beans & Ground Beef Casserole is a hearty and flavorful dish that combines tender ground beef with savory baked beans, tangy ketchup, and a hint of sweetness from brown sugar. Topped with melted cheddar cheese and a sprinkle of fresh parsley, this casserole is the perfect comfort food for a cozy night in.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Casserole:

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion (diced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 (28 oz) can baked beans
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. Cook the beef: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks, about 6–7 minutes. Drain excess grease if needed.
  3. Sauté vegetables: Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic, and sauté for another 3–4 minutes until softened.
  4. Combine ingredients: Stir in the baked beans, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well and simmer for 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
  5. Bake: Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Top with shredded cheese if using. Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes, or until bubbly and the cheese is melted and golden.
  6. Serve: Let cool slightly before serving. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired.

Notes

  • Serve with cornbread, a green salad, or coleslaw.
  • You can substitute ground turkey or plant-based meat for a lighter version.
  • Leftovers reheat well and are freezer-friendly.
