Ingredients

Scale

For the steaks:

  • 1 ½ pounds ground beef (80/20)
  • 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

For the mushroom gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 oz cremini or button mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Steaks: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, egg, salt, and pepper. Form into patties.
  2. Cook the Steaks: Brown the patties in a skillet, then set aside.
  3. Make the Gravy: Cook mushrooms, onion, and garlic. Stir in flour, broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Simmer until thickened.
  4. Finish the Dish: Return the steaks to the skillet, simmer until cooked through. Serve with gravy and parsley.

Notes

  • For extra richness, add a splash of cream to the gravy.
  • This dish can be made ahead and reheated—just thin the gravy with a bit of broth if needed.
