For the steaks:
- 1 ½ pounds ground beef (80/20)
- 1/3 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 small onion, grated
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
For the mushroom gravy:
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 8 oz cremini or button mushrooms, sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Chopped fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Steaks: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, egg, salt, and pepper. Form into patties.
- Cook the Steaks: Brown the patties in a skillet, then set aside.
- Make the Gravy: Cook mushrooms, onion, and garlic. Stir in flour, broth, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme. Simmer until thickened.
- Finish the Dish: Return the steaks to the skillet, simmer until cooked through. Serve with gravy and parsley.
Notes
- For extra richness, add a splash of cream to the gravy.
- This dish can be made ahead and reheated—just thin the gravy with a bit of broth if needed.
