Ingredients
Scale
Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (plus more for rolling)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1/2 cup powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Mix in the vanilla extract.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix until a soft dough forms. Stir in chopped nuts if using.
- Shape the cookies: Scoop out tablespoon-sized portions and roll into balls. Place on the prepared baking sheet about 1 inch apart.
- Bake: Bake for 12–14 minutes, or until set but not browned. Let cookies cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then roll them in powdered sugar while still warm. Cool completely on a wire rack, then roll in powdered sugar again for a snowy finish.
Notes
- Store in an airtight container for up to a week.
- For a richer chocolate flavor, add 1/4 teaspoon espresso powder to the dough.
- Nuts can be omitted for a nut-free version.
