For the Sandwiches:
- 12 cooked meatballs (homemade or frozen, warmed)
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 6 sub rolls or hoagie buns
- 12 slices mozzarella or provolone cheese
For Decoration:
- 12 pitted black olives (sliced for eyes)
- 6 pickle slices or red bell pepper strips (for tongues)
- 2 tablespoons cream cheese or mayonnaise (for “eye glue”)
- Butter (optional for toasting rolls)
Instructions
- Preheat oven and prepare meatballs: Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Warm the meatballs in marinara sauce until hot and well coated.
- Prepare the rolls: Slice sub rolls lengthwise, but not all the way through. Optionally, butter and lightly toast the rolls.
- Assemble the sandwiches: Place 2 cheese slices in each roll, add meatballs with sauce, and fold the top slightly to resemble an open “mouth.”
- Add decorations: Use cream cheese or mayo to attach olive slices as eyes. Insert pickle slices or bell pepper strips as tongues.
- Bake: Arrange the sandwiches on a baking sheet and bake for 5 minutes until the cheese melts.
- Serve: Serve warm for a spooky meal!
