Ingredients
Scale
Vegetables & Meat
- 1 yellow onion, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ lb fresh shaved steak (beef or chicken)
Seasonings & Sauces
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce (for steak)
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- Kosher salt, to taste
- Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste
- ½ teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons Dijon mustard
- 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce (for glaze)
Other Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 12 Hawaiian rolls
- 12 slices provolone cheese, thinly sliced
- ¼ cup butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Then add the thinly sliced green bell peppers and minced garlic, cooking until softened and fragrant, approximately another 3-4 minutes. Remove the vegetables from the skillet and set aside.
- Cook Steak: In the same skillet, add the shaved steak and cook over medium heat, breaking it up with a wooden spoon, until browned and cooked through, around 5-7 minutes. Season the steak with 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, kosher salt, and freshly cracked black pepper to taste. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Make Glaze: In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, dried thyme, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, and 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce until well combined to form a flavorful glaze.
- Assemble Sliders: Arrange the bottom halves of the Hawaiian rolls in the prepared baking dish. Layer half of the provolone cheese slices evenly across the rolls, followed by half the sautéed vegetables. Spread all the cooked steak evenly over the vegetables, then add the remaining provolone cheese and the rest of the sautéed vegetables on top. Place the top halves of the rolls over the assembled layers and generously brush the prepared glaze over the tops.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for 15-18 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the cheese has melted and become bubbly.
- Serve: Remove the sliders from the oven, slice into individual portions, and serve immediately while warm and gooey.
Notes
- For an extra kick, add sliced jalapeños to the sautéed vegetable mix.
- You can substitute provolone cheese with mozzarella or cheddar for a different flavor profile.
- Make sure to use fresh shaved steak for the best texture and taste; frozen shaved steak can also work but may require extra cooking time.
- Serve with pickles, ketchup, or hot sauce as desired.
