Indulge in the rich flavors of the sea with this Stuffed Seafood Bread Bowl recipe. A creamy blend of shrimp, crab, and cheeses nestled in a warm sourdough loaf, perfect for sharing at your next gathering.

Ingredients

Scale

Ingredients:

  • 1 large round sourdough bread loaf
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ cup chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup chopped celery
  • ½ cup chopped red bell pepper
  • ½ pound cooked shrimp, chopped
  • ½ pound lump crab meat
  • ¼ cup white wine (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon Old Bay seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Chopped fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Hollow out the bread: Cut the top off the sourdough loaf and hollow out the center, leaving about a 1-inch shell. Set aside the bread pieces for dipping.
  3. Sauté the aromatics: In a large skillet, heat butter and olive oil. Sauté onion, garlic, celery, and bell pepper until softened.
  4. Add seafood: Stir in shrimp and crab meat, cook briefly.
  5. Create the filling: Deglaze with white wine, if using. Add Old Bay seasoning, thyme, cayenne, cream, and cream cheese. Stir until smooth.
  6. Finish the filling: Mix in mozzarella and Parmesan until melted. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Fill the bread bowl: Spoon the seafood mixture into the hollowed-out bread.
  8. Bake: Place the bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake for 15–20 minutes until hot.
  9. Garnish and serve: Garnish with parsley and serve with reserved bread chunks.
